about us
Knutsford Job Club is an independent club founded at the height of the "Credit Crunch" in 2009.
Founder Graham Boler lost his job in the Travel Industry in 2007, an early victim of economic downturn, and for 6 months attempted to find work in a declining job market. He then launched his own IT business, with limited success. Many of his target customers were in the Financial Sector, and also struggling.
Throughout this period, he found he benefited greatly from meeting regularly with a small network of friends in similar circumstances. Though they were all from different industries, with different skills, the discipline of meeting up proved to be a huge encouragement. Furthermore, it turned out that each of the friends had experiences and skills which could help the others improve their job hunting process - help with computer skills, CV writing, career choices, traning, etc.
Realising that a growing number of people in Knutsford were finding themselves out of work, or with their jobs under threat, the idea of a larger formalised network was born. The vision is for a meeting place for anyone looking for work, in the centre of Knutsford, to find and offer encouragement, and, where possible, practical help.
Graham sought the sponsorship of Knutsford Methodist Church, who have a large Community Centre in the town. They agreed to provide a room and refreshments free. In addition, from the original network and from others contacted through the church, the idea of a support network is being developed - people who will volunteer their own skills to help job seekers, when called upon.
